Hongdae Character Art Part One
'Nana', I saw this tag a lot and in many genres and styles. This set is under the enormous 'Nana' umbrella. There'll be lots more 'Nana' to come.
Stencil Art in Hongdae Part One
Hongdae in Seoul seems to be the mecca as far as wall arts is concerned. I spent a few hours there this afternoon and was unable to traverse every street and explore every nook and cranny. I'll be back for more. For now however I'll be spending the next few days posting images from today's exploration. First up, a set of Stencil Art of which there was a diverse selection.

Abandoned in Yangjae
While hunting in Yangjae and coming up empty, i came across this abandoned building well dressed in red paint. In Korean the repeated message reads 'Cheolgo', (the last 'o' is short as in 'got') which means 'Demolition'. There was something visually pleasing about this relatively new building wearing bright red badges proclaiming it's finality.

Kwangju graffiti
Itaewon, The Beginning
Itaewon is foreigner central in Seoul, so with high hopes i promptly got myself lost in the back streets. Picking was slim however, despite the obvious evidence that there have been artists working in this area for quite some time. I figure the more time i give it, the more chance I'll have in finding nuggets, hence, this is only the beginning.
Evolution of an Artist - Shadow
I was walking the narrow alleyways of Yoksu with the hope of finding buried treasure and the further i troved the more i came to see the territories of particular taggers. They overlap within those zones and they overlap directly with the new taking over from the old. What i also found was the evolution of an artist. From first forays with a rushed hand into a deft touch creating art. I give you "Shadow".

Temple Tagging
Scratched into the wall of a three story high temple that is over a thousand years old in Jollabuk Province are examples of local tagging. Wanting immortality by aligning your name with that of the patron of your religion is one thing but examples can be found here of the typical He loves Her surrounded by a love heart.
Icheon Graffiti
These are commissioned pieces all by the same artist going by the tag 'The Wall Destroyer'. All pieces are located in Icheon, on the grounds of a prominent park that regularly hosts international festivals.
